Visakhapatnam was an ancient Port city of India which had trade relations with the Middle East and Rome. Ships were anchored at open roads and were loaded with cargo transported from Visakhapatnam shore by means of small masula boats.

VPA has set a new milestone in November 2024, achieving the highest-ever throughput of rice exports in bags. A remarkable volume of 185,560 MT was handled across 5 vessels, surpassing the previous calendar month record of 164,739 MT in October 2021 (handled by 3 vessels).
For the first time the largest container vessel, MSC Topaz berthed at VCTPL on 12 November, 2024. This mile stone highlights VPA's capability to accommodate mega container vessels, reinforcing its position as premier port destination.
