Port visit – 13000 School & College students including Public from 6th to 8th October, 2018

In commemoration of the Visakhapatnam Port celebrations on its 85 years of existence and Port being open to Public on 8 th October, 2018 also to the School and College students tremendous response has been received from various Schools and Colleges in and out of Vizag i.e., from East and West Godavari and tourists from Kolkata utilized this facility and the Children with eagerness have visited the Port in buses on the last day also. Tourists who are already in Visakhapatnam from various places in the country have also visited the Port.


On 6 th October, 2018, 3000 School and College students visited the Port, on 7 th October, 2018 approximately 4000 public visited the Port and on 8 th October, 2018, School and College Students overwhelming numbering around 6000 have visited the Port. Students expressed their happiness of witnessing the Port operations directly and gained knowledge of the activities of the Port. Students desired to continue this type of activities regularly to gain first-hand information of the Port activities. The Vizag people also expressed the same and appreciated the entire Port team for organizing such a wonderful, educative and informative programme. The 3 days Port visit programme to the Public was concluded successfully.

85 Years Foundation Day Celebrations of Visakhapatnam Port Trust

Visakhapatnam Port Trust celebrated its 85 years of memorable existence in the city of Destiny-Visakhapatnam at Kalavani, Port Indoor Stadium, Visakhapatnam in a jubilant manner. Addressing the occasion, Shri M.T. Krishna Babu, IAS, Chairman, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, stated that the support of all the Stakeholders, prominent Organizations, Employees and those related to the operations of Port made the Vizag Port proud to sustain its continuous growth till now and it would continue to grow in the days ahead. Chairman,Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman further stated that Visakhapatnam Port has been awarded with many prestigious National and International Awards viz., 2nd Cleanest Port in two consecutive years 2017 & 2018 in all Major Ports, Indian Green Energy Efficiency Award Winner-2018, Stood among the Three Top Performing Major Ports in India and Independent Survey done by Dun and Bradstreet for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Winner of AP Genentech Award-2017 in Industrial Category, etc. Chairman stated that the Port employees would be rewarded appropriately when the throughput would cross 68 Million Tonnes in the current fiscal year and added that from henceforth every year on the Port Foundation Day the students would be rewarded for better excellence in their education field. Eminent persons participated and spoke on the occasion and praised the Chairman and his entire team and expressed that in the future also Port would attain much more growth with the coordination and cooperation of the Port team and its allied organizations.

On the auspicious occasion, Chairman and the other dignitaries have given away cash awards to the children of 10th standard Govt. Schools in the vicinity of the Port area and also to the employee’s children who secured admission for the academic year 2018 through IIT, NIT, JIPMER, AIIMS, IIM, etc. On this occasion, several cultural programmes by eminent artists of Visakhapatnam have been performed. In continuation to the Port visit on 7th October, 2018 approximately 4000 public have visited the Port and the public at large have thanked for the gesture of Visakhapatnam Port.

India Green Energy Awards, 2018

The Chairman, Indian Federation of Green Energy, India has invited Nominations from all large, medium and small scale industrial/Service Sector companies/organizations and their Units for India Green Energy Awards 2018 to showcase the portfolio of individuals, groups and corporates on green energy initiatives as well to acknowledge the environmental credibility of firms/organizations.


VPT being the front runner in green energy initiatives as per MoS directions has installed 10 MW solar plant near Visakhapatnam Airport area at a cost of Rs 57.5 Crores and put into operation since 17.05.2017. The plant is expected to generate 1.75 MU per year as well as Reduces a carbon foot print to a tune of 68 Lakh Lbs and the present consumption of VPT is 1.2 MU per year, there by the 100% power consumption of VPT is being met from green energy out of 10MW solar plant generation through open access agreements with AP Transco/EPDCL of AP. The remaining excess energy is being offered to VPT lessees as third party sale under the concept of green port initiatives by VPT.


During the award function held on 07.09.2018 at New Delhi, VPT has been adjudged as Winner in “Outstanding Renewable Energy User” under Services Sector in India. The Chief Guest of the function Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, Shri Suresh Prabhu has given away the awards and Sri P.Kamaraju, Superintendent Engineer (Elec) has received the award on VPT behalf.


All are aware that VPT has already been adjudged as the 2nd Cleanest Port in India for consecutive 2 years and apart from the above VPT has also been adjudged 1st Prize in the Industrial category (Public) of AP Greentech Award 2017. VPT has bagged 1st and 2nd prizes in Individual Home Gardens for Chairman Bungalow and Deputy Chairman Bungalow.


The moment has been shared with Chairman, VPT where in Sri M.T Krishna Babu, IAS Chairman VPT has appreciated the whole team Sri PL Harinadh, Deputy Chairman, VPT, Sri R.N.Hari Krishna, CME, Sri PVVP Hari Hararao, DCME, Sri P.Kamaraju SE (Elec), Sri T.Kiran Kumar EXE (Elec) and Sri J.Siva Kumar AE (Elec) on the subject achievement and informed that this is another cap for VPT’s achievements.

Independence Day 2018 celebrations at Visakhapatnam Port Trust

Shri M.T. Krishna Babu, IAS, Chairman, Visakhapatnam Port Trust unfurled the National Flag on the 72 nd Independence Day Celebrations at Port Stadium on 15.08.2018. Shri P.L. Haranadh, IRTS, Deputy Chairman, Trustees, Heads of Departments, Senior Officers, Employees, Staff, CISF contingent, School Children participated.


Addressing the gathering, Chairman paying tributes to those sacrificed their lives in the freedom movement,  saluted the defence personnel of the Armed forces and conveyed greetings to all the shipping and port fraternity. Chairman informed that VPT handled 63.54 Million Tonnes during 2017-18 with an incremental cargo of 2.52 Million Tonnes and a growth rate of more than 4% and happy that VPT now ranks 4th position among Major Ports and attributed this achievement to the workers, employees, officers, PPP Operators, Stevedores and Shipping Agents.


Chairman informed that two major projects have been completed and commissioned in the year 2018 and Phase-1 mechanization of iron ore handling in outer harbor is completed at a cost of Rs.580.89 crores on PPP mode and some of the major projects are in progress. Chairman further stated that VPT is committed to protect the environment by adopting comprehensive Environment Management System and major initiatives have been undertaken to curb dust pollution and air pollution. Chairman has also stated that as a responsible Corporate citizen, Visakhapatnam Port has taken up lot of social welfare activities in the areas of Education, Health, Sanitation and Skill Development for the benefit of the people in the immediate settlement and has allocated Rs.30.44 crores towards Swachhta Action Plan for the year 2018-19. Chairman further reiterated that VPT is declared as 2nd Cleanest Port for the second year in succession under Swachh Bharat Mission, VPT is placed in the top slot “Good category in Port Performance by Dun & Bradstreet on the feedback from stakeholders and also was awarded 1st prize in industrial category as part of AP Green Awards 2017.


Chairman in conclusion stated that let us rededicate ourselves for achieving continual improvement and enhancement in service quality to meet the expectations of the Trade and contribute towards the ultimate goal of facilitating targeted economic growth and thanked one for their support and gave away Citations to those who worked with dedication and devotion towards their duty.
